Powering the Lift.
The Loowit Lift runs on 12V from your vehicle's 7-pin trailer connector. Most vehicles are ready out of the box. Here's how to know—and what to do if yours isn't.

How it's powered
The lift plugs into the 7-pin trailer connector on the back of your vehicle and pulls power from the charge line—the 12V circuit that exists to recharge a trailer's onboard battery. The circuit needs to be fused at 20 amps or more. Not all 7-pin connectors have the charge line connected from the factory.
Before you test: turn the key
Many vehicles—especially newer ones—only activate the charge line when the ignition is in the run or accessory position. It's a built-in feature that protects your battery from accidental draw-down.
Always test with the vehicle ignition on. An off-ignition test on a working vehicle is the most common false alarm we see.
Test it easily
Trailer or RV shop. Swing by the service department at your local trailer or RV dealer—they'll usually test it for free.
Test plug. Plug it in, ignition on: the 12V light should stay constantly lit. If you don't own one, we recommend this one.
Multimeter. Test the 12V pin for constant power. Pin positions depend on which way your plug cover swings—see the diagram.
No power? No problem.
First, rule out the false alarms: confirm the contacts in your plug are clean and making good connection with your tester, that the ignition is on, and that the charge-line fuse in your fuse box is present and intact—typically a 20A fuse. These are the most common issues we encounter.
Still nothing? Many vehicles ship with the 7-pin plug installed but the charge line left out, disconnected, or unfused. It's an easy fix. You can do it yourself or you can have a shop do it.
Call the service department at your local trailer or RV dealer and tell them you need the charge line connected in your 7-pin plug — they'll know exactly what you mean. Expect to spend between $150 and $250. It's mostly shop time with a little bit of materials.
